Kobakhidze hailed the country’s “exceptional progress” in regional development in recent years, attributing these gains to the stable and peaceful environment.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has emphasized the country’s “commitment to peace,” citing its history of conflict and “recent achievements” in regional stability.

Speaking at the opening of the 14th Tbilisi Regional Forum for Sustainable Development on Thursday, Kobakhidze highlighted Georgia’s experience in navigating the aftermath of war and promoting peace as a cornerstone of its national and regional policy.

“We are a country that has gone through four different wars over the past 35 years. Therefore, our country understands the price of peace best of all,” Kobakhidze said. “We are doing everything to strengthen peace in our country and, what is very important, we are doing quite well.”

The Prime Minister noted that despite “significant pressure” in recent years, Georgia has succeeded in maintaining internal stability and contributing positively to the broader region.

“Georgia has not only preserved peace at home, but has also consistently supported peace efforts across the region,” he claimed.

The Tbilisi Regional Forum, now in its 14th year, is a platform for dialogue on sustainable development. This year’s focus is on the role of peace in fostering socio-economic progress - both within individual countries and globally.

Kobakhidze highlighted the forum’s significance, particularly given the ongoing military conflicts in surrounding areas. “Today’s world is full of serious challenges, especially when it comes to peace. In such a situation, we need to talk more about its importance,” he said.

Over the two-day event, the forum is hosting around 40 mayors and city council leaders from neighbouring countries, alongside regional experts and policymakers. Discussions are expected to focus on regional cooperation, urban development, and the role of peace in enabling equal economic growth across all areas of Georgia.

Kobakhidze hailed the country’s “exceptional progress” in regional development in recent years, attributing these gains to the stable and peaceful environment. “Peace has allowed us to take maximum care of the equal socio-economic development of the regions in our country,” he said.
