Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze harshly criticized the characterization of protests in Georgia as “peaceful,” calling such descriptions “brazen” and “nothing short of shameless.”
Speaking to Georgian journalists in Antalya, where he is attending the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Kobakhidze said that labeling the actions of demonstrators who stormed government buildings and attacked law enforcement as peaceful protest is a deliberate misrepresentation.
“It is pure shamelessness to describe clearly violent, extremely violent acts as peaceful protests. There’s no other word for it,” the Prime Minister said. “For five consecutive days, we witnessed large-scale violence—there were storming attempts on government buildings, and direct attacks against police officers. To call this peaceful is a blatant lie.”
Kobakhidze accused both domestic and foreign politicians of acting on political orders and pushing biased narratives.
“Certain individuals are operating under specific political directives. They receive orders and, like agents, are forced to issue these harsh and false statements,” he said. “This applies to both politicians inside the country and some abroad.”
He concluded by stating that the Georgian public will ultimately draw its own conclusions regarding the motives and intentions behind such portrayals.
