Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has downplayed the political impact of a potential unification of opposition parties, saying that their resources were so diminished that even consolidation would not strengthen them.

Speaking to journalists in response to a question about opposition unity, Kobakhidze said that combining forces would not generate additional political capital for opposition groups.

“Rearranging the addends does not change the sum,” the Prime Minister stated. “The resources of these political parties are so depleted that no matter how they unite, it will not provide them with any additional capacity. That is their choice.”

Kobakhidze emphasized that the government’s primary focus remained the country’s development and the strengthening of the ruling party.

“Our main task today is to ensure the country’s development and to continue reinforcing our party,” he added.
