Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, together with members of the government, attended a concert by the Georgian State Chamber Choir at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome. The performance was dedicated to the Vatican’s Jubilee Year and was organized with the support of Georgia’s Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia to the Holy See.
The program featured Georgian liturgical chants, folk songs, and choral works by Georgian composers, including compositions by the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II. The Patriarch’s Ave Maria was performed by the choir together with soloist Iano Alibegashvili. Composer Zviad Bolkvadze and choir leader Giorgi Donadze also took part in the concert.
The Vatican’s Jubilee celebration, held in Rome once every 25 years, has been observed since the year 1300.
