Georgia is a leader in Europe in terms of economic growth, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said on Thursday while speaking at the presentation of the Tbilisi International Airport expansion project.

The Prime Minister added Georgia has recorded the highest economic growth figures over the past five years. He noted that the country’s average economic growth during this period stood at 9.3 percent, while the nominal size of the economy increased from $16 billion to $37.5 billion.

Kobakhidze stressed that such a pace of development creates strong opportunities to further and more actively support the development of tourism and aviation in the country. He said the airport expansion project is a clear example of this progress and expressed confidence that Georgia’s growth momentum will accelerate further in the future.
