Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has promoted Georgia's economic performance and strategic transit role, telling the Georgia-Turkmenistan Business Forum that the country offers a competitive investment environment while prioritising development of the Middle Corridor and the Anaklia deep-sea port.
Kobakhidze said Georgia's economic policy was built on reforms that had created a modern and competitive business environment, noting that the economy grew by 7.8% in January-May 2026. He also cited International Monetary Fund projections forecasting average annual growth of around 5.4% between 2026 and 2031.
The prime minister said Georgia attracted approximately $8.7 billion in foreign direct investment between 2021 and 2025, while its network of free trade agreements provides businesses with access to a market of roughly 2.3 billion consumers.
Kobakhidze said Turkmen companies were already active in Georgia in sectors including transport and logistics, construction, agriculture and real estate, adding that both countries had significant potential to expand cooperation in energy, renewable energy, information technology, tourism, manufacturing and agriculture.
He also described Georgia and Turkmenistan as strategic links between Europe and Asia, stressing the importance of developing the Middle Corridor as a key Eurasian trade route.
According to Kobakhidze, Georgia is continuing to strengthen its transport and logistics infrastructure through the modernisation of the national railway, construction of the East-West Highway and development of the Anaklia deep-sea port.
He added that the government had decided to develop Anaklia under the landlord model, under which the state will retain ownership of the land and core port infrastructure while allowing multiple international partners and operators to participate in the port's development and operations.
