Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said the country’s economy was developing steadily, maintaining a strong pace of growth over the past several years.

In an interview with China’s state broadcaster CCTV on the programme Leaders Talk, Kobakhidze highlighted Georgia’s economic progress and called on Chinese investors to explore opportunities in the country.

“Georgia can be a very attractive destination for Chinese companies to invest in and the Government will do everything possible to offer them the best opportunities for investment”, the Prime Minister stated.

Kobakhidze added since the signing of the Free Trade Agreement with China in 2018, trade between the two countries has grown significantly.

“We have made substantial progress in our trade partnership with China and the figures are indeed impressive. Upon completing the talks to advance the Free Trade Agreement, we will be able to deepen our economic cooperation even further”, he said.

The Prime Minister noted that Georgia’s economy had demonstrated robust and consistent growth, with an average annual growth rate of 9.7 percent over the past four years and 7.7 percent recorded in the first three quarters of this year.

“There are many different sectors that could be of interest to Chinese investors, including energy, transport and logistics, tourism and hospitality. Georgia offers a favourable investment climate, a liberal economic policy, low taxes, a simple tax system and minimal bureaucracy for doing business”, Kobakhidze explained.

He added that Georgia ranked highly in international indices for ease of doing business.

“For all these reasons, Georgia can be a very interesting place for Chinese companies to invest in and we will continue working to ensure the best possible conditions for them”, the Prime Minister concluded.
