Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the entry of Tether into Georgia sent an “important message” to the international investment community and demonstrates growing investor confidence in the country.

Speaking at the presentation of Tether’s investment project, Kobakhidze said the partnership marked “a new, very important and very interesting step” in Georgia’s economic development.

He described Tether as a global technology leader managing around 200 billion dollars in assets and gold reserves, adding that the company serves as “a powerful bridge” between traditional and digital economies.

Kobakhidze said the partnership’s “most ambitious” element was Tether’s plan to launch a digital version of the Georgian lari, known as GELt.

The official added the company was also planning large-scale investments across several sectors, including social and educational projects.

He said the planned investments showed the cooperation extended “well beyond business interests” and was aimed at delivering broader public benefits.

Kobakhidze added that Tether’s arrival in Georgia indicated that the country was viewed as a “reliable and trustworthy partner” for international companies.
