Kobakhidze said the government’s main objective was to ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure while paying market-based prices for projects

Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Friday claimed the government had held meetings with companies involved in the development of state infrastructure projects as part of efforts to improve standards and market conditions in the sector.

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze said the government’s main objective was to ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure while paying market-based prices for projects.

“We have held several meetings with them. Representatives of the sector expressed specific views on various issues. Today, we shared with them a draft package of changes aimed at improving the situation in the sector,” the PM said.

He noted that discussions included issues related to pricing and indexation mechanisms.

“Our main task is to obtain infrastructure of the highest possible quality, while ensuring that the state pays market prices for it. At the same time, we want to strengthen companies as much as possible, particularly Georgian companies,” Kobakhidze added.

He added the representatives of the sector largely welcomed the proposed changes. He also said the government remained ready to continue consultations with companies involved in infrastructure development.
