Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze expressed his respect for the decision of Georgia’s Ambassador to the United States, Davit Zalkaliani, to resign from his position. During a press conference, Kobakhidze stated that while it was unfortunate to see Zalkaliani leave, it was ultimately his choice, and he respected that decision.

“Unfortunately, Davit Zalkaliani has left his position, but this was his choice, and I, of course, respect it,” Kobakhidze said. He also expressed solidarity with Zalkaliani, acknowledging the intense pressure he faced from various sources during his tenure.

“I spoke with Mr. Zalkaliani, and I can say that he faced serious pressure from multiple sides, though not from the opposition. This pressure was heavy, and all I can offer is my solidarity to him,” Kobakhidze added.

Regarding the situation with Teimuraz Janjalia, Deputy Foreign Minister, Kobakhidze explained that this case was different. He clarified that the decision for Janjalia’s position was a personnel matter made by Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili. The PM indicated that changes were previously discussed between Bochorishvili and Janjalia, and the resignation was part of an agreed-upon staffing decision.
