Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday held a meeting with representatives of major fuel companies in Georgia as part of the government’s existing coordination commission on food prices.
The session focused on current fuel prices in Georgia and potential avenues for reducing them, the government press office said.
“Unlike food products, fuel prices in Georgia are significantly lower than in European countries, partly due to excise taxes being roughly three times lower than the corresponding rates in Europe. Nevertheless, discussions on possible price reductions are still feasible,” the statement said.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister heard from fuel company representatives on market conditions, supply chain operations, and the pricing mechanism. The meeting was held in a dialogue format, and both sides agreed to continue consultations in a working format.
The discussion on food, medicine, and fuel prices will move to a parliamentary commission format starting next week, the administration added.
