Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said the European Union is currently facing “serious problems”, particularly in the area of migration, expressing hope that the bloc will shift course and continue its development in what he described as the right direction.

Speaking at a briefing today, Kobakhidze said recent developments have placed the EU in a difficult position.

“Today the European Union is facing serious problems, including in terms of migration. We should remain hopeful that, in the future, all this will turn around and the EU will continue its development, now in the right direction,” the Prime Minister said.

Kobakhidze added the situation is largely the result of decisions made within the EU itself.

“In reality, it was European bureaucracy that brought the European Union to this point, including an absolutely unjustified migration policy, which has created serious problems for the EU and its member states,” he stated.
