PM Kobakhidze: Technology Hub will make Kutaisi one of Georgia’s main centres for technological development

Kutaisi is becoming one of Georgia’s main centres for technological development, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said at the opening ceremony of the Kutaisi Technology Hub in the country’s west.

Kobakhidze said the hub will house Georgia’s largest technology park, an interactive science and technology museum, the international TUMO technology school, an artificial intelligence computing centre, startup spaces and modern laboratories.

He said the facility would focus on areas including robotics, electronics, drones, artificial intelligence and virtual reality.

The Prime Minister noted that Kutaisi International University would play an important role in the development of the technology ecosystem by providing a foundation for research and the training of highly qualified specialists.

“Kutaisi has always been one of the most important centres of education, science and culture in our country. From today, with the opening of the technology hub, Kutaisi is also becoming one of Georgia’s main centres for technological development,” Kobakhidze said.

He added that Kutaisi International Airport would help the hub develop into not only a national but also a regional technology centre.

Kobakhidze said that modern technological infrastructure, a strong university and international connectivity would create an opportunity for Kutaisi to become a place where knowledge is transformed into innovation, and innovation into business, creating new jobs and supporting economic growth.
