Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has accused local political forces and “their foreign supporters” of showing solidarity with terrorism, describing it as evidence of the "tragic situation" within both the European bureaucracy and what he called local "agents."
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Kobakhidze said everyone knew what had happened at Tbilisi City Court involving now convicted opposition leader Aleko Elisashvili, claiming that he had attempted to set the court building on fire - an act he said qualified as terrorism under the legislation of any country.
"Failing to distance oneself from such an action demonstrates a shared mindset," Kobakhidze said.
The prime minister claimed that political terrorism and terrorism in general were acceptable to his opponents and described their activities over the years as a form of "terror against the Georgian people," citing alleged attempts to provoke unrest and organise revolutionary scenarios.
"In this case, this terrorism has already taken the form of a specific crime. When you do not distance yourself from it, you naturally reveal your true nature completely," Kobakhidze said.
