Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has claimed that specific foreign donors financed the actions carried out by NGO representatives during the April 9 events in Tbilisi. Speaking to Georgian journalists at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the Prime Minister sharply criticized what he described as “anti-state activities” and accused certain European officials of undermining European values in Georgia.
“Everyone knows that this disgraceful behavior was funded by foreign donors. The actions carried out by NGO representatives on April 9 had specific donors,” Kobakhidze said. “These donors refuse to take responsibility—because they are already discredited in the eyes of the Georgian public and fear further discreditation. But we will speak the truth on their behalf.”
He further alleged that certain European bureaucrats and officials are actively opposing European values in Georgia, which he said harms the reputation of European institutions among the Georgian public.
“It’s ironic that those who claim to promote European values are funding anti-state actions in our country. These donors are far removed from the true spirit of European values. I hope this will change in the future,” Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister also criticized what he called the donors’ reluctance to publicly acknowledge their involvement.
“If you fund such actions, you should come forward and admit it. The fact that these foreign donors are hiding only confirms that they are well aware of the anti-state nature of what they are supporting. They are knowingly financing actions against the state, and society deserves to know and assess this accordingly,” he said.
