Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has paid tribute to Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, describing his role as invaluable to the country’s spiritual life and national identity.
In a message published on social media on Thursday, Kobakhidze said that for nearly half a century Ilia II has led the Georgian nation as its spiritual father, guiding the country through faith, moral strength and unity.
“His contribution to Georgia is priceless, particularly in strengthening spirituality, faith and sowing goodness,” the prime minister wrote.
Kobakhidze also wished the Patriarch good health and strength, expressing hope that he would continue to play a leading role in reinforcing the Georgian Orthodox Church and the country’s Orthodox values.
Ilia II has served as Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia since 1977.
