PM Kobakhidze praises Trump administration for ‘cutting Georgian opposition funding’

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has welcomed the Trump administration’s decision to halt all foreign funding that he claims was fueling political unrest in Georgia. Speaking to journalists in Yerevan, Kobakhidze called the move a major setback for the “radical opposition” and a positive development for Georgian democracy.

“This is a dark day for the radical opposition but a very good day for Georgian democracy,” Kobakhidze said. “We passed the Transparency Law, but it seems others are even more committed to transparency than we are. The Trump administration has now decided to cut all such funding, and we hope this isn’t just a temporary three-month suspension.”

The PM stressed that any financial support aimed at destabilizing the country or promoting revolutionary movements must be stopped. “Any funding directed toward unrest, disorder, or revolution must be cut off, and we must thank the Trump administration for making this decision,” he added.
