Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday referred to US Republican Congressman Joe Wilson as an “American Kubilius,” likening him to Andrius Kubilius, a vocal European Parliament critic of the Georgian government.
“Donald Trump has not invited Salome Zourabichvili anywhere. There is an American Kubilius—[Congressman Joe Wilson]—who invited Zourabichvili, a private citizen, to the United States. We are not expecting an invitation from an American Kubilius,” Kobakhidze told journalists.
The Prime Minister ALSO dismissed the relevance of Zourabichvili, describing her as “no longer interesting at all,” and said the government would “observe how the processes unfold” regarding the invitation.
Congressman Joe Wilson, Chair of the Helsinki Commission and a member of the Republican Party, posted on his X account last week that he had invited Zourabichvili to the inauguration of Trump, whom Wilson described as “the only legitimate leader in Georgia.”
