Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has said the Georgian government has reduced the cost of the Anaklia deep-sea port project by more than 25% following a review and optimisation of existing contracts.

Kobakhidze on Wednesday claimed the government had reassessed several contractual obligations in recent months in an effort to reduce state spending across multiple areas, including the Anaklia infrastructure project.

He noted the review covered the contract related to dredging works and construction of the breakwater at the Anaklia deep-sea port.

He said the project’s original value stood at 203.9 million US dollars, and that a separate contract with the supervising company was also revised.

As a result, Kobakhidze said the overall cost of the project has been reduced by 52.5 million dollars, lowering total expenditure by more than 25%.

He added that construction activity in Anaklia will resume actively in the coming days with significantly reduced costs.

Kobakhidze said the government remained committed to ensuring all infrastructure projects were delivered in the most cost-efficient manner possible with minimal burden on the state budget.

He also thanked Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili and her team, saying the savings had preserved 52.5 million dollars for the state budget.
