Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday highlighted the need for a stricter and more structured approach to regulating the content and quality of academic programmes in the country’s universities.

Speaking at the presentation of the education reform, Kobakhidze noted that the current quality management system in higher education was largely formal and lacked substance.

“Much of the work carried out in this area today is mostly formal. We must take stricter measures to ensure the proper regulation of the content and quality of academic programmes,” said Kobakhidze.

The Prime Minister also addressed the issue of staffing policies, emphasising the need to change the existing model.

“Currently, there is no coherent system in place. In most cases, we have part-time professors who are engaged in other professional activities and only work at universities on a secondary basis. We believe that the system should be transformed so that the core academic staff at universities consists of full-time professors and lecturers,” he stated.
