Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday said foreign intelligence services were attempting to influence people in the country in the “wrong direction,” stressing that the Government would remain vigilant against such threats.

“All relevant state institutions will stay fully alert and attentive to prevent anyone from radicalising processes in Georgia through external or non-transparent funding,” Kobakhidze told reporters.

The Prime Minister said all attempts to stir up radicalism were linked to foreign intelligence services, which, he said, posed a challenge.

“You see how people’s souls and faces are being distorted - this is a very serious problem. Foreign intelligence services are engaged in developing people in Georgia in another, wrong direction. Just look at Georgian liberals and compare them to American liberals - they look the same, with the same signs, having lost their identity. This is very unfortunate. We must do everything to resist the spread of pseudo-liberalism in our country,” Kobakhidze said.
