Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has expressed appreciation for the European Union’s support of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying that any concrete form of backing would be “even more welcome.”

Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze was responding to a question regarding a document initiated by Kaja Kallas.

“I am speaking generally about the EU, not about individual personalities. When the European Union supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, we welcome it. Where specific European officials deserve criticism, we criticise them; where they deserve thanks, we express our gratitude. This is a case where we can express appreciation to European politicians. In other cases, where their stance toward the Georgian people is very negative or incorrect, we do not hesitate to criticise. Where they deserve gratitude, we say thank you; where they deserve criticism, we express it,” he said.

Kobakhidze emphasised that Georgia evaluated EU actions pragmatically, acknowledging support where it existed while remaining critical of decisions that did not align with the country’s interests.
