The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, on Thursday highlighted the importance of honoring veterans, calling the veteran status “one of the most honorable” in societies “where freedom is a core value”.

Speaking at an event marking Veterans Day, the PM pointed to the “Government’s efforts to strengthen social guarantees for those who have served the country”, contrasting the current situation with the previous administration’s approach.

The official expressed his appreciation for veterans, including members of the defense forces, police, and special services, saying “the strength of the state is determined by its attitude towards the defenders of the homeland”.

He further noted the Georgian Dream administration’s commitment to prioritizing veterans’ welfare since taking office in 2012, marking the occasion as a “significant milestone, with this year being the tenth celebration of Veterans Day in Georgia”.

The PM stressed that before the current administration came to power, veterans lacked essential social guarantees, including universal health insurance. “As soon as we came to power, we started active work in this direction; we laid the foundation for the creation of the Department of Veterans Affairs and made care for veterans a priority”, Kobakhidze said.
