Bakuriani prepares to host Winter Youth Olympic Festival, PM says

Georgia is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Winter Youth Olympic Festival, marking another significant step in Georgia’s development, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated during the opening ceremony of a new biathlon track in Bakuriani.

Kobakhidze emphasized that the newly built infrastructure will accelerate the growth of winter sports in Georgia, allowing local athletes to achieve greater success in the field.

“This morning, we inspected the newly constructed Ice Palace in Tbilisi, as well as another Ice Palace in Batumi. The new biathlon track in Bakuriani, alongside other facilities, will host the Youth Festival. We are looking forward to this important tournament in our country, which represents yet another step forward in our national development.

Winter sports in Georgia lag behind summer Olympic disciplines, but with this new infrastructure, we will be able to develop them more rapidly and achieve greater success in the future. Additionally, this infrastructure will allow us to host numerous other tournaments in the coming years. Today, we received an update on the completed work, and everything is prepared at the highest level,” Kobakhidze stated.

He expressed gratitude to the Olympic Committee, its president Leri Khabelov, Mamuka Khabelia, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze, and all those involved in the project.

“Everything has been completed at the highest standard. On February 9, we will officially open the Olympic Festival, and I wish success to all athletes, especially our Georgian competitors,” Kobakhidze added.
