PM Kobakhidze: Safeguards Included in Free Higher Education Reform to Keep Students Motivated

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the government’s free higher education initiative for state universities includes mechanisms designed to ensure that students remain motivated and actively engaged in their studies.

Speaking to reporters, Kobakhidze reiterated that, for the first time in Georgia, tuition at state universities will be fully funded by the government.

“Free higher education at state universities will become available to students for the first time in Georgia,” the Prime Minister said.

He explained that the reform includes academic performance requirements intended to encourage student engagement.

“If a student fails two subjects during a semester, it indicates that they are not sufficiently involved in the learning process. In such cases, state funding will be reduced starting from the third semester,” Kobakhidze said.

According to the Prime Minister, the measure is designed solely to strengthen students’ motivation and encourage consistent academic performance.
