PM Kobakhidze met with the newly appointed officials at the Government Administration.

Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday appointed new state representatives - commonly referred to as regional governors - in five of the country’s regions.

The changes affect the regions of Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Guria, and Kvemo Kartli. According to a statement released by the government administration, the new appointments are as follows:

Aleksandre Zagashvili in Mtskheta-Mtianeti

Simon Guledani in Shida Kartli

Zaal Gelashvili in Samtskhe-Javakheti

Giorgi Ghurjumelidze in Guria

Levan Kharabadze in Kvemo Kartli

PM Kobakhidze met with the newly appointed officials at the Government Administration, alongside Regional Development Minister Kakha Guledani.

Speaking at the meeting, the top official highlighted the government’s focus on regional development, calling it a “priority area” and noting that the recent creation of a standalone Ministry of Regional Development underscored that commitment.

“We will be paying particular attention to the effective implementation of regional development projects,” Kobakhidze said, stressing the need for strong leadership at the regional level. “It is important that the regions are led by individuals who demonstrate experience, professionalism, and integrity.”

He also highlighted the need to improve the coordination and quality of ongoing development initiatives and wished the new governors success in their roles.
