Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday hosted members of the country’s Muslim community for an iftar dinner together with Government officials, according to the Government Administration of Georgia.
During the gathering, Kobakhidze spoke about the role of the Muslim community in building a modern and strong Georgian state and congratulated them on the upcoming Eid al-Fitr marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
“It is a great honour for us to host you again at the iftar. This gathering once again confirms that our brotherhood, unity and mutual respect remain unwavering,” Kobakhidze said, congratulating Muslims in Georgia on the holy month and wishing them peace.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of unity among people living in Georgia and noted that amid tensions in the wider region, it is symbolic that Sunni and Shia Muslims pray together in the same mosque in the country.
“This is what makes Georgian Islam unique and an example of peaceful coexistence and consensus,” he said, also expressing hope for the restoration of peace in the Middle East.
