Georgia will introduce a large-scale amnesty on suspended driving licences from January 1, 2026, following an initiative by Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Parliament said on Monday.
Based on the Prime Minister’s proposal, lawmakers have prepared a draft law providing amnesty for citizens whose driving licences were suspended for various periods due to different offences.
The draft legislation has already been submitted to Parliament’s bureau and is expected to be adopted under an expedited procedure in three readings on Wednesday.
The amnesty will apply to all cases except those involving serious drug-related crimes, including the large-scale purchase, possession or distribution of narcotic substances. It will also exclude driving licences suspended as a result of road accidents that led to a person’s death.
The bill will be presented to Parliament by Archil Gorduladze, head of the parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs.
