In a recent interview with POSTV, Irakli Mezurnishvili, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy, emphasized Georgia is committed to being an open and welcoming country for international business.
“When we talk about diversification, our goal is to ensure that Georgia becomes a platform where many countries are represented and their interests protected. This creates a collective interest in Georgia’s stability and prosperity,” Mezurnishvili said.
He highlighted the strategic significance of the Anaklia Port, noting it is designed to host multiple operators from various countries. “While the port is primarily envisioned to handle Chinese cargo, this does not exclude other nations. It will facilitate transit to Europe and allow participation from operators and companies from different countries, including Azerbaijan,” he added.
Mezurnishvili stressed that Georgia has firmly chosen the path of openness. “We aim to provide maximum comfort for other countries to launch businesses and operate here. Anaklia Port is a fantastic opportunity not only for China but also for European nations,” he stated.
He further noted the potential for European and American investment and underlined the importance of more free trade agreements. “Georgia already benefits from several such agreements, and companies can take advantage of them by producing in Georgia and exporting with a ‘Made in Georgia’ certificate. This benefits both Europe and China amid ongoing tariff wars,” Mezurnishvili concluded.
