Levan Khabeishvili was the first politician to publicly raise concerns about alleged corruption involving former State Security Service chief Grigol Liluashvili, the United National Movement’s deputy secretary-general Irakli Pavlenishvili has said.
“When Levan Khabeishvili spoke about Liluashvili, the ruling Georgian Dream party portrayed him as an enemy,” Pavlenishvili said.
He added that Khabeishvili was particularly active in drawing attention to the issues, working alongside the party’s anti-corruption team. “Of course, media outlets and other politicians later addressed these matters, but Khabeishvili was the most proactive. Yet the narrative was twisted to blame him, as if it were his fault that Liluashvili, the head of the State Security Service, was allegedly involved in corruption and protected fraudulent call centers”, Pavlenishvili said.
