Irakli Pavlenishvili, deputy secretary-general Georgia’s opposition United National Movement, has called for the upcoming meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to produce outcomes favourable to Ukraine.
In his comments on Friday, Pavlenishvili said that the summit’s conclusion should support a ceasefire and help restrain Russian imperial ambitions.
“Of course, it is very important that today’s historic meeting ends with conditions favourable for Ukraine,” Pavlenishvili said. “This is crucial for our country’s freedom and Euro-integration. The ambitions of the Russian empire must be checked, and support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity from the civilized world must continue.”
He added that Ukraine’s reconstruction and resistance to Russian aggression were “vital not only for the country itself but also as a symbol of holding back Russia’s expansionist policies.”
