Members of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream party have slammed the visit of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to Tbilisi, accusing them of bias and supporting the opposition.

The delegation met with opposition leaders, President Salome Zourabichvili, and civil society representatives to discuss Georgia’s European integration.

Irakli Zarkua, a member of the ruling party, dismissed the visit as futile.

“They are wasting their time. There will be no ‘National Movement’ in Georgia. Standing in the cold is pointless,” Zarkua told reporters.

First Deputy Speaker Gia Volski echoed the criticism, accusing the MEPs of ignoring the government’s position.

“Their aim is to bankrupt Georgia and make this situation irreversible. They are pouring fuel on an extinguished fire,” Volski stated.

The meetings have sparked further political polarization, as opposition leaders called on the EU to impose sanctions and intensify pressure on the government for alleged political repression.
