GD MP calls President Zourabichvili “Madam Saboteur,” and demands clarity from EU Ambassador

Irakli Zarkua, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Regional Policy and Self-Governance and a member of the ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party has labeled President Salome Zourabichvili as “Madam Saboteur,” accusing her of undermining the Constitution rather than defending it.

Zarkua’s remarks followed comments from EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski, who had expressed support for what Zarkua described as an ’’ambiguous political charter,” initiated by the President. According to Zarkua, this charter allegedly proposes the formation of a technical government, resignations, redistribution of political power, and a possible revolutionary scenario.

“I want to address Mr. Herczynski. You represent 27 EU states in our country, and you should uphold the European values of non-interference, respect for differing positions, and, most importantly, the prohibition of foreign intervention in domestic affairs,” Zarkua stated, referencing both constitutional limits and international agreements.

Zarkua demanded the ambassador clarify his stance on the president’s alleged revolutionary agenda.

“We await your position on whether you support the statement made by Madam Saboteur, which implies your endorsement of this revolutionary scenario threatening to destabilize and radicalize our country. If this is true, we want to know in advance. This is a red line for us, and we will not tolerate it. Therefore, we expect your stance—does Madam Saboteur lie, or is she telling the truth? Based on your response, we will determine our reaction,” Zarkua concluded.
