Iran’s president denies weapon transfers to Russia, signals potential nuclear talks with US

Iranian President Masoud Fezeshkiani stated that Iran has not transferred weapons to Russia since he assumed office. Speaking at his first official press conference in Tehran on Monday, Fezeshkiani, who is regarded by some analysts as having relatively moderate views, suggested a willingness to engage in direct negotiations with the United States on nuclear issues, provided Washington demonstrates it is not “hostile” toward Iran.

At 69 years old, Fezeshkiani emphasized that despite Western sanctions designed to restrict Iran’s missile program, his country would not alter its missile activities.

The press conference came amid heightened tensions within Iran and across the Middle East. Iran is grappling with severe economic challenges, largely due to Western sanctions, and increasing public discontent over human rights issues, particularly concerning women’s rights. Fezeshkiani assured that he would use his authority to prevent the moral police from “harassing” women.

Fezeshkiani, who took office on July 30 following his victory in the elections, succeeded the more hard-line Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash in May.
