The Italian Ambassador to Georgia, Massimiliano D’Antuono, on Wednesday expressed his optimism over Georgia’s commitment to fulfilling the recommendations set forth by the European Union last year for opening accession talks with Tbilisi.

He highlights the recent visit of the Georgian Prime Minister to Brussels as a “significant step forward” in this regard and emphasized the “positive atmosphere” surrounding discussions on implementing EU recommendations, before noting the Georgian government’s “strong determination” to achieve tangible results.

In comments of the upcoming general elections in October, the diplomat commended Georgia’s progress in organizing the electoral process, expressing confidence in its fairness and transparency. He also underscored the international community’s keen interest in observing the elections and assured continued cooperation with the winning government, irrespective of the election outcome.

In further remarks, D’Antuono underscored the importance of trade and economic partnership between Italy and Georgia, particularly in the food industry. He pointed to “great potential” in Georgia’s economic growth and emphasized Italy’s willingness to support the country in aligning its standards with those of the European Union, leveraging its expertise in the food and beverage industry to enhance bilateral cooperation.
