MEP Juknevičienė accuses Georgia’s ruling party, its founder of pushing Kremlin policies

Rasa Juknevičienė, a member of the European Parliament, has accused Georgian Dream, the ruling party of Georgia, of aligning with Kremlin policies over the past 12 years while ignoring the country’s aspirations for EU and NATO membership. “The masks have finally fallen,” Juknevičienė tweeted, adding, “But what do the people of Georgia think? Do they really want to stay with Russia?”

The criticism follows Georgian Dream leader Irakli Kobakhidze’s controversial announcement that the party will not prioritize negotiations for EU accession until 2028. This decision has sparked outrage from opposition leaders, civil society groups, and international observers, who argue that it marks a significant deviation from Georgia’s pro-European constitutional commitment.

Opposition figures have described the decision as a betrayal of Georgia’s national interests and a deliberate move to align the country more closely with Russia. The backlash reflects growing concerns about the Georgian government’s perceived drift away from Western integration at a time when public opinion polls consistently show strong support for EU membership among Georgians.
