Ivanishvili: Georgia likely to achieve high-income status by 2030

Bidzina Ivanishvili, honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, expressed optimism about Georgia’s economic future, stating that the country is likely to achieve high-income status according to World Bank classifications by 2030. He made these remarks during the closing event of the party’s final election campaign on Wednesday in Tbilisi.

Ivanishvili emphasized impressive projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), noting that Georgia ranks second globally for per capita real economic growth in 2024, a position it is expected to maintain for the next five years.

“This means that by 2030, Georgia will likely become a high-income country according to the World Bank’s classification,” he said.

He also highlighted that previous statements about Georgia surpassing the economies of six EU countries in terms of purchasing power parity will occur earlier than expected.

“According to the latest IMF projections, Georgia will have a higher purchasing power economy than these six EU countries by the end of this year, not in 2029 as previously anticipated,” Ivanishvili noted.
Addressing critics who dismiss positive economic indicators, he remarked, “To ignore all these rankings, including the latest IMF forecast, and stubbornly claim the country is in a swamp is nothing but deception. It is political fraud to see a country progressing and continuously mislead the public into thinking it is heading toward a precipice. Our people see through this, and the deceivers will soon find their rightful place.”
