Iago Khvichia, an MP of Girchi – More Freedom opposition party, on Friday said that the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, “is not an oligarch”, and that the country’s major challenge over years had been a “one-man rule”.
“In general, I dislike the term oligarch, nor do I understand its meaning in Georgia. It may have a specific background in Russia and historically, it may also have its context in Ukraine, but in my opinion, it has no context in Georgia.
“Ivanishvili is not an oligarch, it is not a problem. The problem in terms of Ivanishvili is a one-man rule, The same as we had under Mikheil Saakashvili and other leaders who were not millionaires or billionaires. We have a systemic problem of one-man rule, and this problem needs to be solved by everyone”, Khvichia said.
The Georgian parliament on Thursday adopted the deoligarchisatiion bill with its first reading, with the opposition demanding the document to include Ivanishvili.
