Ivanishvili’s access to own accounts limited – ruling party MP

Irakli Zarkua, an MP of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday claimed the party founder and former prime minister PM Bidzina Ivanishvili’s access to his own accounts had been limited, adding it was “extremely unfair” and meant the billionaire had been “actually sanctioned”. 

 

Last year the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for sanctions on Ivanishvili for his alleged interference in Georgia’s politics and links with the Kremlin. However, none of the official structures of the bloc had approved the sanctions. 

 

The lawmaker also claimed the Swiss Credit Suisse Group AG, which lost a long-running dispute with Ivanishvili, had been on the verge of “bankruptcy” due to its damaged reputation in the process. 

 

In his suit Ivanishvili accused the bank employee of fraudulent actions and that the institution had failed to prevent him from losing $1.27 billion. 

 

The bank claimed earlier this year it had paid $210 million to Ivanishvili so far.
