Georgian police have arrested a man suspected of inflicting serious bodily harm during a violent altercation in the Dusheti district of eastern Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed on Monday.
The suspect - identified as Sh.K., born in 1974 and previously convicted - was detained shortly after the incident by officers from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department during a pursuit operation, the MIA press office said.
Investigators alleged that the suspect, who was under the influence of alcohol, became involved in a verbal dispute with a 33-year-old man, identified as Z.A. The confrontation escalated into physical violence, during which Sh.K. stabbed the victim with a knife and then fled the scene, the MIA added.
The injured man was taken to hospital, where he received medical treatment.
Police recovered the weapon used in the assault and seized it as evidence. The investigation is being conducted under Article 117 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which pertains to the intentional infliction of grave bodily harm - an offence punishable by up to seven years in prison.
