Two individuals have been arrested in Tbilisi following a violent altercation that broke out after a car accident, Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced on Monday.

Officers from the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department detained L.K., born in 2005, and N.K., born in 2001, on charges of gang violence and intentional grievous bodily harm.

According to the investigation, the incident began when N.K., allegedly under the influence of alcohol, veered into the opposite lane while driving and collided with another vehicle. A verbal dispute ensued between N.K. and the passenger of the other car, identified as A.M., born in 1986, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.

L.K., reportedly N.K.’s brother and also intoxicated at the time, joined the altercation and stabbed A.M. with a knife.

The victim was taken to hospital and received emergency medical treatment.

Police later seized the weapon used in the attack as evidence. L.K. faces charges of causing intentional grievous bodily harm, while N.K. is being charged with gang violence.

The investigation is ongoing under Articles 117 and 126 of Georgia’s Criminal Code. If found guilty, the suspects could face up to seven years in prison.
