Police in Tbilisi have arrested a Ukrainian citizen on charges of intentionally causing less serious bodily injury, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said.

According to the investigation, the suspect, born in 1995, allegedly wounded a 21-year-old man with a knife during an argument in Tbilisi on 7 January before fleeing the scene.

The injured man, born in 2003, was taken to hospital for medical treatment and remains under care.

Law enforcement officers detained the suspect shortly after the incident following operational and investigative measures. The alleged weapon used in the attack, a knife, has been seized as evidence.

An investigation is underway under Article 118 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
