Political analyst Kaha Gogolashvili on Wednesday said recent actions by the United States and Europe demonstrate their confidence that a ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine will ultimately be achieved.

Speaking to the media, Gogolashvili noted that the current document under discussion should be viewed not as a legally binding agreement, but as a political declaration.

“Overall, I believe this is a very significant achievement. It is a political declaration rather than a formal agreement, but it is extremely important. Of course, failure to comply with it will not be legally punishable, but the country that violates it will pay a very high political price,” Gogolashvili said.

He added the declaration will only take effect once an official ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine formally enters into force. However, he highlighted the psychological and political significance of the move.

“There is a very important psychological moment here. Through this, the United States and Europe have shown Russia that they are confident a ceasefire agreement will be reached, that they are positively inclined in this direction and that they will mobilise all available resources to ensure such an agreement is concluded,” the expert said.

Meanwhile, media reports indicate that the so-called “Coalition of the Willing” has agreed to establish a coordination centre for Ukraine’s security guarantees. The centre will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating security guarantees for Ukraine provided by its Western allies.
