Incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Wednesday presented the latest batch of 18-metre MAN buses to the public, marking another step in the city’s efforts to “modernise its public transport fleet.” The new buses, part of a 200-vehicle fleet purchased last year, will gradually enter service on city routes from 27 September.

“Over recent years, we have completely modernised the city’s fleet with new European-style buses and minibuses,” Kaladze said. “From 27 September, the new 18-metre buses will start serving our residents, while smaller buses will be redistributed across other routes. We will continue to develop public transport to ensure all districts have access to modern, comfortable buses.”

The buses, powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), carry up to 162 passengers, including 43 seated, and are fully accessible for people with disabilities. They feature modern heating, air conditioning, low-floor entry, four doors, integrated audio and video systems, mobile charging points, and Wi-Fi access, Tbilisi City Hall press office said.

Currently, 76 buses have been deployed, with the rest gradually replacing older vehicles. The project, carried out under a contract between Tbilisi Transport Company and Tegeta Holding, costs €111.1 million. Municipal and city council representatives attended the launch alongside Mayor Kaladze.
