Incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Friday dismissed opposition claims of plans to “peacefully overthrow” the Government, calling them “complete nonsense and bluff”.

“Let anyone dare to commit an act against the law. Everyone who commits a crime will be strictly punished within the law,” Kaladze said, stressing that the opposition lacks both resources and public support in the capital or the regions.

Kaladze said opposition figures relied on “insults, threats, violence, and slander” instead of presenting meaningful political ideas. He also singled out opposition leader Elene Khoshtaria, saying her “acts of vandalism” were an attempt to regain public attention.

Commenting on the United National Movement’s call for mobilisation at polling stations to allegedly disrupt the voting process, Kaladze warned that such actions would also be unlawful.

“There are only about 30 of them - what can they do? That too would be a violation of the law. Let them break the law, and we will see what happens,” he said.
