Incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Wednesday criticised German Ambassador to the country, Peter Fischer, accusing him of overstepping diplomatic boundaries and interfering in Georgia’s domestic politics.

Commenting on recent remarks by Fischer directed at the Georgian Government, Kaladze said it was “offensive” to call him an ambassador.

“This man has crossed all diplomatic red lines. He is directly involved in domestic political issues, encouraging polarization and extremism to divide society,” Kaladze stated.

The Mayor also recalled past instances, including during Parliamentary elections, when Western diplomats allegedly engaged in Georgia’s political process.

“The people gave these so-called diplomats, who are hostile to Georgians, a clear response—they were defeated in the elections,” he added.
