Incumbent Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze, who has been renominated for the post by the ruling Georgian Dream party ahead of the October 4 municipal elections, on Monday declined to discuss the opposition’s plans or potential candidates for the upcoming polls, saying his focus remained on engaging with residents and implementing projects in the capital.

Responding to a journalist’s question, Kaladze said “I have no desire to talk about the opposition’s plans or their candidates. I am not interested in that. We speak with the people and carry out specific projects in the capital. We have done a lot of good work for our beautiful Tbilisi, but of course, there are serious challenges and problems that need to be addressed. Tbilisi is a very old city with aging infrastructure and communications, all of which require attention and improvement.”

He added that the ruling party had the capacity to respond “effectively” to the city’s challenges.

“Georgian Dream is the team that can genuinely address all the issues and challenges connected to Tbilisi,” he claimed.
