Ruling party Sec-Gen on possible UK sanctions against Ivanishvili: “Britain’s legacy of justice could be at stake”

Kakha Kaladze, Secretary General of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, on Friday questioned the possibility of sanctions being imposed on ruling party founder and former Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili by the United Kingdom.

In his press comments, however, Kaladze warned that such a move would tarnish Britain’s reputation for justice.

“I don’t think Britain will make this type of decision, but if they do, of course, it will be very bad,” Kaladze remarked. “The fact that Britain has always been associated with justice—everything will be a thing of the past.”

Kaladze expressed hope for significant global changes after January 20, suggesting a turning point for international relations and justice. He criticized recent decisions and statements he deemed unfair, claiming they were based on “lies and falsities.”

“In recent months, we have been hearing and seeing statements that are based on injustice,” Kaladze said. “It is unthinkable to continue living like this, with decisions being made through force and blackmail.”

He also referenced remarks attributed to the president-elect of the United States, who, according to Kaladze, has pledged to dismantle what he called the Deep State.

When asked if the political council’s strong criticism of the UK is linked to Bidzina Ivanishvili’s ownership of offshore companies in the Virgin Islands, Kaladze dismissed the connection.

“This has nothing to do with it. What do offshore companies have to do with it? A person has been blackmailed for years to sacrifice the interests of the country,” Kaladze stated. He further alleged that Ivanishvili has faced financial coercion, including the withholding of funds awarded by a Swiss court, to pressure him into political concessions.
