Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has dismissed claims of a possible coup or revolution ahead of the 4 October local elections, assuring the public that the country will remain calm.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, Kaladze, who also serves as ruling Georgian Dream party Secretary-General, said that while his office had access to various “interesting information,” relevant state agencies were actively monitoring the situation and would respond firmly to any illegal actions.

“On 4 October, Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia will win the elections, both in the capital and across all municipalities. No revolution or state overthrow will happen. Anyone attempting to break the law will face a very strict response within the framework of the law,” Kaladze said.

Asked about reports that opposition figures Paata Burchuladze and Murtaz Zodelava met with former Interior Minister Bacho Akhalaia, the mayor described any serious discussion about Burchuladze as “impossible,” calling his recent statements on social media “illogical.”

Kaladze urged citizens to remain calm, saying that law enforcement was fully prepared to ensure public order and stability during the elections.
