Incumbent Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Sunday commented on President Mikheil Kavelashvili’s visit to the United States, noting that his upcoming address at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly was an important opportunity to present the truth to the world.

“Another important platform should be used to ensure the world hears the truth. Messages we hear from some congressmen are filled with lies. Our main task is to start relations with the United States on a new page and deepen friendly and partnership ties,” Kaladze told reporters.

He stressed that Georgia’s partnership with the US was based on reciprocity and warned against unfounded criticism.

“No one will be given the opportunity to unfairly criticize our country with false messages, whether they come from America, Europe, or Russia. Partnership and friendship are mutual. My country cannot be sacrificed for someone else’s interests. Statements based on lies and threats, as we saw under the previous administration, are categorically unacceptable,” Kaladze said.
